Winter arrived early this year and the first snow was falling while the volunteers were putting up the Christmas trees and lights around the village on Saturday November 27th. A few days later the flurries became heavy and on Wednesday December 1st Little common was under a thick blanket of snow.
At times like these local shops become a lifeline and it was a busy time for the local food stores.
Fortunately the snow turned to rain on the Friday evening and it disappeared very quickly the next day.
So the weather was fine for the switching on of the lights on Sunday December 5th and there was a good turn out for the Community Carol Service in the Community Centre. This has been an annual event for the last 5 years and this year we had singers from the Little Common and Bexhill Players perform for us. We were also joined by the ministers from St Martha's St Marks and St Judes and the Mayor Mr Jimmy Carroll.
After the service our chairman paid tribute to Keith Walter who is responsible for watering the flowers around the village during the summer. The Mayor presented Keith with an engraved fork and spade and a certificate as a thank you for all his hard work each summer.
To complete the evening Father Christmas gave out presents to the children present and we all enjoyed delicious tomato soup supplied by Jans Larder, jacket potatoes supplied by Carrolls and mince pies supplied by Earls and Two Trees.
The Record Shop opened next to Bibby's Tea Rooms just before Christmas. Owner Ken Barry buys and sells 2nd records as well as DVD's, CD's and memorabelia.
The snow returned on December 17th and stayed a few days but disappeared before Christmas. Fortunately January and February 2011 were not quite so cold so it did not return a third time.
The LCBA held one of their popular Quiz evenings on January 28th. This was very well supported and the hall was packed. Half way through the quiz we enjoyed a Fish and Chips supper. The evening raised a total of £340.01 for LCBA funds.
Also on January 8th we saw the opening of the Tesco Express store in the village. Having a Tesco in the village was met with mixed feelings originally but what ever your opinion the building is an attractive feature and hopefully will bring more people to shop in the village without similar retailers suffering.
Later in the spring Dianne Foster opened Toffs Barbers in the mews.
