Little Common Christmas Extravaganza
06/12/2014 @ 10:00 am - 10:00 pmFree
Traders in Little Common will once again be spreading Christmas cheer around the village on Saturday 6th December. They will be organising a range of activities during the day – something for everyone from our oldest residents to our youngest! Little Common & Cooden Business Association is relying on the support of everyone to make the day as successful, if not more successful, than last year. We are hoping to attract visitors from further afield to experience the delights of our traditional village celebrations as well as supporting our wide range of small independent businesses. Come along and use the day to stock up on local produce, browse a range of specialist shops as well as save a bit of money with some of the special offers available. Almost all shops in the village will be open.
For our early birds, The Royal British Legion in Meads Avenue is the place to be. The Business Association is hosting a Christmas Craft Fayre from 10am to 1.30pm – a longer time span due to public demand! Local groups and crafters will be demonstrating their skills as well as selling a wide range of items which will make ideal gifts for all the family at Christmas. Entry is free and refreshments will be available. Finished browsing? Then take advantage of a lunch prepared in the restaurant by Dean and his team.
Santa may be making a brief appearance at the fayre before his tour of the village around 1.45pm. Give him a wave and a cheer as he goes past but don’t forget to visit him at his grotto in Harmony Blinds which will be open from 2pm to 4pm. Children will be welcome to bring their Christmas lists to share with him and receive an early Christmas present at the same time. Our Carol singing groups and the Lions Club barrel organ will be adding to the festive air the village so stop and give them your support – why not join them in a song or two! Take time to soak up the atmosphere and browse the many shops who will be enticing you in with treats and competitions of their own.
Think you are observant? Why not try and find our ‘Christmas letters’ which make up the words ‘Little Common & Cooden’ – all you have to do is find all 19 letters and tell us in which business premises you found them and you could win a super prize. Closing date for this competition is Tuesday 9th December so they can be completed on the day or afterwards – details on the entry forms which can be picked up at: DarnKnits (in Village Mews), Touch of Glamour, Cream, Two Trees and The Wheatsheaf. You can also pick up your ‘Lucky Number’ tickets at the same time. Remember they are only £1 each and only a limited number available. The first prize is £250 to spend with any business which is a member of the Business Association – this could be treating yourself to a meal, indulging yourself with a new hairstyle or beauty treatment, stocking up on some luxury food and other items for Christmas, or even putting it towards a new kitchen, bathroom or much needed building work! The combinations are endless!! There is even a competition on our website for those who are technically minded so do have a go!
Bexhill mayor, Brian Kentfield, will be switching on the main Christmas Tree lights at the roundabout at 4.30pm and children from Little Common Primary School will be following this up with a special Christmas song to mark the occasion. They will then join Santa in a procession from the roundabout, down Cooden Sea Road (which will be closed to traffic) and on to the British Legion. Do join them and sing along as you go.
The Business Association’s traditional Carol Service will take place at The British Legion. Again all are welcome at the service which includes carols accompanied by the Legion Concert Band and readings from local clergy. If you missed Quintasia and JACs singing groups in the afternoon, they will be performing as part of the service. Refreshments will be provided for adults afterwards and children will have their own Christmas party and disco, kindly hosted by the Legion! Not to be outdone, there will be live music from Ameritz to finish off the evening. All this is free and all are welcome.
If you are keen to be involved in Little Common’s special day of the year festivities and help to light up the village this Christmas, then do join us.
On behalf of all traders in the village, Little Common & Cooden Business Association would like to thank you all for your custom during the year and look forward to being of service to you in 2015.
