Little Common Wacky Village Fayre, Saturday 14th July 12 noon to 4pm.

Post-fayre report from Lynn Adair, Secretary LCCBA and Wheatsheaf owner:

Well, what a scorcher for our annual Village Fayre!  We topped 30˚C at times so luckily we had lots of cold drinks and ices to cool off.  In spite of competing with a World Cup and Wimbledon final, we managed to attract a large number of locals to our Fayre – approx. 600 once again.  It seemed our rainbow of marquees made for a colourful attraction and all our stalls – crafts – plants – flowers – charities – local organisations – games etc- were extremely busy.  The only let down was volunteers for our Wacky Races!  Children and their Mums stepped up for the Bouncy Hopper and Sack Races.  Even Keith Walters entered the oldies race on the Bouncy Hopper (well he managed half a lap) but where were the guys??  How disappointing!  We will have to send out the challenge a bit earlier next year.

The Wacky Band kept things lively to the end of the fayre when the winners of some of the games were announced.  Caroline Bailey won the key to unlock the door and £40 for her efforts.  Kay won the £25 Betts and Loyd voucher for entry ticket 188 and Kasey won our giant Minion for her score in bowling for a pig.

The best news is that we are able to donate almost £600 towards the Christmas Lights fund so we should be able to light up the village really well this Christmas. This would not have happened without the support of those businesses which donated not only prizes for the tombola but also their time to man the stalls (particular mention to Brenda from Village Hair, Bill and his wife from Care Zone Training, Janet from RBL Women’s Section and Keith Walters)  Staff, customers and family members of the Wheatsheaf also made a significant contribution to setting up, clearing away and manning stalls (particular mention to Bill who made several circuits of the village businesses to collect prizes for the tombola and publicise the event with posters and. although at times was met with a negative response, he kept going!)  Don’t forget that ALL benefit from the flowers and lights provided by LCCBA which not only makes our village look eye-catching but also makes our village more attractive to visitors and locals.

Once more a BIG THANK YOU!
